WWE Carlito, 5 best matches, and why does WWE have loyalty to the Colons??
May 27th

I think this kid is a very good worker. However, his head isn’t right which everyone knows held him back in WWE. I’ll never know why he was given so many chances up to this point.
He was “over” with the company but, never really “drew” money. They tried to “push him to the moon” and he never “took the ball and ran with it”!
Of course he has made some good money but, not the kind of money that would allow him to retire or even live on for long.
EXAMPLE: For over the last year, on WWEShop.com he has only had a few straggler action figures (on clearance) and some afro wigs as far as his merch goes. (lol! this is true.)
He has always had WWC P.R. to fall back on but, he means even less on The Island then he did this last year in WWE.
When your last name is Colon in Puerto Rico, this means (to fans) that you won’t “do the job” therefore even though the fans there know “wrestling is a work” they still crave some suspension of dis belief!
They find it hard to even want to believe in any Colons because of this.

There is some sort of really weird bond between the company and Carlos Colon. I don’t get it?
Every Colon has been given a chance at WWE and none have delivered.
One may think that WWE thinks having Colon’s on tv would help the company draw when they run events in P.R.
This is NOT true due to the aforementioned! The P.R. fans are so “hard up” right now for wrestling that when WWE comes
(a mere once a year with 2-3 dates) the gates are tremendous!!
Here’s why this affects me;
WWE uses Carlos events license and the WWC TV on WAPA in P.R. to promote their live events there. The WWC tv has decent enough ratings but, with the amount of commercials that WWE is able to get all over The Island, its really not necessary.
2 years ago, I networked my way into a relationship with the director of live event’s (international) at WWE.
I had a friend on The Island with a promoters license that did mostly big music acts. He had a great reputation and did some very good business in P.R.
The thing I liked most about the possibility of working with him on WWE live events was that he was not a wrestling person, which meant no emotional attachments nor politics, leaving nothing but, business to deal with!
WWE had dealt with Carlos on 3 prior events. All went bad and Carlos really “dropped the ball” on the last 2 with some really stupid mistakes which were merely Carlos and crew being lazy and complacent.
As I keep saying, “knowledge is power” and I am very good at getting information. I gathered my knowledge from my network in Puerto Rico as I have put many years and more energy then I would even care to admit into wrestling on The Island
and was able to show WWE that I knew “what was up” and I had success in promoting live events on The Island.
We had a “verbal agreement” and I negotiated a deal that was beneficial to both sides. WWE was going to run 2 events in P.R. in October of 2008. with my friends company, under the terms I had negotiated and I was worked in for a percentage of the live gates and various sponsorships.
All we had to do was wait for the “paper work” to be processed and I was envisioning a great Christmas for the Ricci family!!
The communication was there and I really believe that the live events director was looking forward to working with me as I am am a “gringo” that knows The Island!
At crunch time, he got a phone call from someone “higher up” that he wouldn’t disclose who, asking that Carlos get another chance as he and his partner Victor Jovica had “caught wind” of the deal that was on the table and they were able to “whine” their way into be given a 3rd chance!
I got what the Bible refers to as “the butt salami”!!
I wish I could laugh about it now but, I can’t because it was so painful!

I don’t understand the “ties” between Carlos and WWE. Gorilla Monsoon, was at one point partners with Carlos in WWC. But, I don’t see how that relationship would carry over into todays WWE which is of course publicly traded.

Plus IWA P.R. founder Victor Quinonnes had as tight of bonds with WWE as Carlos did.
Also, Victor’s surviving partners Miguelito Perez and Savio Vega worked for the company and actually drew money as Los Boriquas.

And Miguel Perez Sr. (RIP) was a long time tag team champion for Vince Sr. WWWF and was said to be one of Sr.s favorites.
Which I do believe because at one point, Vince Sr. had a dinner where he gave Miguel Sr. an actual real gold replica of the tag title (you need to see this belt its a thing of beauty!).

WWE sign’s Orlando Colon (For what reason??)
Mar 1st

WrestleMania 26 Red T-Shirt $25
This guy is an O.K. worker. Anyone with the last name Colon, does not get over in Puerto Rico because the fans there already know the outcome of each fued. They “put someone over” from time to time but, never really get beat.
I do think that Carlito has the “it” factor but, has displayed a shitty attitude at WWE and is lucky to still be there in any facet. The company must have plans for Carlito though because Orlando doesn’t have half of his charisma.
I’m not “busting” on the guy (Orlando) but, the fact is there are many other guys that possess better ring skills, are bigger, and have a much better look.
WWE has a “wierd” relationship with Carlos Colon. Gorilla Monsoon and Carlos started Carlos’s WWC and Gorilla was very tight with Carlos.
The way I’ve heard the company’s most recent “fascination” with the Colons stems from Jerry Brisco which I don’t even know his current status with the company.
WWE draws well in Puerto Rico but, they only come down once or twice a year and the presence of Carlito (or any other Colon) doesn’t impact the live gate attendance’s.
WWEShop does derive a lot of traffic from Puerto Rico but, carries virtually no current Carlito merchandise. It’s really hard for me to understand what WWE has to gain from this relationship and it kind of bothers me why so many talented people who could help the company much more don’t know the WWE “secret handshake” but, Carlos does???
Carlos has acchieved a ton. There is no doubt about that but, “a business man he’s not” and he, Carlito, and his partner Victor Jovica have received more chances than WWE usually give’s people.
WrestleMania 26 White T-Shirt $20.
2 years ago WWC (Jovica and Carlos) served as the WWE promoters on The Island. Let’s just say that they certainly lacked professionalism.
I have a friend down there that was in the mainstream entertainment business and had a boxing/wrestling license. He is a great guy with a decent name in Puerto Rico.
I was able to “parlay” this (and actually worked really hard) with Intl. WWE Live events and finally got the verbal approval! Just when I was planning out my success, I got a call at night telling me that WWE could not process the paper work because Carlos got through to who ever and was able to “beg” another chance (which WWE doesn’t typically grant another chance after the huge mistakes Carlos made the first time) in the final hour.
WrestleMania 26 Fullzip Sweatshirt $40.
I’ve heard he has done better but, is certainly still sub standard. Some may say that WWC has a long running television program and that may be the reason but, the WWC TV on WAPA in Puerto Rico isn’t that highly rated anymore and IWA (Savio Vega and Miguel Perez jr.) have about the same ratings
It can’t be a “rich” past history because Miguel Perez Sr. was one of Vince Mcmahon Sr.’s all time favorites as he drew ton’s of money for the company.
Plus Savio and Miguel worked for Vince Sr. and got over. I don’t think that Carlos ever worked for even Vince Sr. very often.
WWE doesn’t seem to want Carlos’s library because the production value is so bad that even WWE can’t fix it.
Ponderous????

Dutch Mantell NOT fired from IWA Puerto Rico
Jan 1st

There’s a rumor that was started on one of the Puerto Rico wrestling websites that Dutch Mantell was “let go” by Savio Vega and Miguel Perez’s IWA. This rumor has escalated now on the U.S. sites with a “spin” like “Oh look! Dutch got fired …..again!!”
The rumor is NOT true!!!! Business is currently bad on the Island in general. Both WWC and IWA are struggling. With both companies having severe financial trouble. I have no “ties” to WWC and have worked quite a bit with IWA. But even Carlos Colon and Victor Jovica (WWC owners) will tell you that if anyone can bring the “wrestling climate” up in Puerto Rico it’s Dutch.
I do hope that this rumor helps the sale of Dutch’s recently released book.
