I figured I’d read J.R.’s blog and see what it might “spawn” in me. I think this is a pretty good read! J.R.’s text is in “”"s and mine is in bold.

“I’m getting ready to head to Dayton, Ohio for the Smackdown taping Tuesday night. I’ve planned to get their early enough to catch Raw on TV. This is a very important week for WWE TV’s as these will be the final shows prior to this Sunday’s Judgment Day in Chicago.
The wrestling internet is an interesting animal. I often times learn of things that are going on that one would think I should known before reading it on line. I guess that just proves how disconnected I am from many aspects of the business but at the same time I choose to not be immersed in minutia….or all the dirt. “

J.R.’s probably “taking a lesson” from Jerry Lawler. Both men have a ton to contribute outside the realm of what their current duties are at WWE.
I know Vince himself respects both men’s opinions and has asked their opinions on very important items.
Jerry could probably put himself in a very influential position with the company, and be “one hell” of an attribute too. But why? There would be too much bitching within the WWE infrastructure and many folks would be intimidated by The King having that kind of “JUICE”.
With all that, WWE couldn’t officially give King the position. So, that means he wouldn’t be compensated for the extra responsibility. Plus, with that kind of position, comes more head aches then his current responsibility’s !! That is actually a 90 hour a week task!
Jerry is too mature and too smart to take that on. He has always been smart enough to stick to what he does best and he is very good at it!!
He and J.R. not only work together but, have been very close. I think they respect each other a lot.
J.R. used to carry that extra load in addition to his commentary duties. And he had way too much on his shoulders!! I think so much that it may have caused him the health trouble he’s had in the past. I’m sure that was a kind of “wake up call” to J.R. and God maybe taping him on the shoulder (or hitting him in the head with a 2” by 4” lol!) and letting him know it may be time to slow down a bit and enjoy life!
Which judging by the read, J.R.’s listening! Although he will always have Vince’s ear and respect! And will have influence if he chooses to.

“Most things people write about me are generally positive, respectful and uplifting but I stand by the right of fans to say whatever they the hell they choose as I can’t control it any way plus it’s their right to speak their minds. Not that I agree with all that I read but the same goes for what I write, many don’t agree with my opinions.
I have never understood how some, vocal fans feel that they have “lost all respect for J.R.” for doing such things as kissing Mr. McMahon’s ass or being a pawn in the Backlash/Santina skit. Many have declared that I should have quit my job and “walked off.” I can only imagine that many of these fans are young and have never held regular jobs or have a family to care for.”

He may be right about the younger fans being behind those comments. I also believe that some folks are currently not happy with certain aspects of WWE. You can’t please everyone and at least they are still watching! I think that it’s human nature to take “pot shots” at anything and everything when they are frustrated and that’s why certain comments may have been directed toward Ross.
I didn’t see the Santina thing but, I have seen J.R. involved in many on camera story’s.
Every time I have, his appearances have always gotten the job done! He’s done what he was supposed to do and has always “gotten over”. He doesn’t need to “sweat” any kind of criticism!

“These uncomfortable moments on TV are just that and are intended to elicit a reaction. These matters are entertainment based and are fictional. It’s like playing a Native American, of which I am one, on a TV western and being scripted to be killed by the calvary. Can you imagine any actor portraying a Native American refusing to follow the script? Me neither. Certainly they could refuse out of misguided principles but they might find themselves having a hard time finding work.”

EXACTLY!!! This is ALL that needs to be said about it!

OKAY! This is the job of a commentator!!! And a BIG PART of WWE’s brand building, merchandising, rating’s, PPV buy’s and the success of the company!
Just think a minute about this… J.R. not only needs to have an absolute “wealth of wrestling knowledge” but, he also needs to be eloquent, quick witted, entertaining, while maintaining his character. And he is the TOP SALESMAN for the company that needs to posses the aforementioned attributes to keep the fans attention at the same time! AND DOING IT LIVE???
He obviously does a pretty “God Damned” good job of it! Look at the company numbers!
This is HUGE ingredient TNA is lacking and refuses to address!! Guy’s like Ross don’t grow on trees!
If TNA were smart, they would utilize Cornette in this position as he and J.R. are “cut of similar cloth!
